Imagine only picking up road cycling two years ago only to then be picked up by one of the biggest and most dominant cycling teams in the world.
Well that's the current story of Wanaka's Kim Cadzow.
The 20-year-old has been confirmed to race for Jumbo Visma on a two-year deal and told 1News she can't quite believe it.
“I actually had a couple of meetings online and I had my phone sitting beside me and suddenly it's just buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz,” Cadzow told 1News.
“I still wake up in the mornings and I’m like, ‘has it actually happened?’ I can't really believe it.”
Not many can.
Two years ago triathlons were her thing but it was also there where Cadzow's coach spotted her.
“He’s like, ‘maybe you should think about just having a go in just road cycling,’ and I was like, ‘I don't want to do that. Why would I want to do that’?”
Thankfully though, she did and it’s been a fast ascent ever since with training up and down The Remarkables, winning the national under-23 time trials and a second-place finish at the Oceania Championships.
Cudzow will meet her Dutch team in November; until then, she's got the training kit to tide her over until she can start chasing her new, ultimate goals; tearing up the mountains in the Giro d'Italia and Tour de Femmes.
