1. Auckland woman, 79, dies after fall from hospital bed

An Auckland family wants answers after their 79-year-old mother who fell from her bed at North Shore Hospital in late February died 10 days later.

The family said they were never told how their much-loved mother and grandmother ended up on the floor whilst recovering from surgery, only that she needed palliative care and may not survive.

She died a week later.

2. Dramatic video shows pair arrested after alleged Auckland kidnapping

New CCTV footage from Headquarters bar on Auckland's Viaduct shows four plain-clothed officers fold a man over the table he is seated at before handcuffing him and another woman.

The arrests follow an alleged abduction of a woman from Auckland's North Shore on Tuesday evening.

3. Govt vows to slash construction 'red tape' - three big changes

The coalition Government plans to make three legislative changes in a major "shakeup" to New Zealand's construction rules, aiming to lower the cost of building new homes by removing barriers to the use of overseas products.

Construction Minister Chris Penk said the new rules will be introduced in the Building (Product Certification) Amendment Bill, with plans to pass the legislation before the end of the year.

4. 'Clumsily' written will gave lawyer woman’s entire estate

An Auckland lawyer has been censured and fined after drafting a "bizarre" will that accidentally granted him a woman’s entire estate.

Joseph Boaz Park was found guilty of "unsatisfactory conduct" by the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal last month, who said he was simply "inexperienced" in drafting wills and hadn’t been properly supervised by his employer.

5. Pulped fiction: Torn-up books strewn along Southland road

Invercargill residents were left scratching their heads over the weekend after five kilometres of ripped apart books were mysteriously strewn across the town.

Councillor Darren Ludlow described the incident as "so peculiar" after everything from old cook books and colouring nutrition books, to teen romance and old newsletters were discovered on the roadside.
