Wellington-based visual effects company Wētā FX has won an Emmy Award for its work on the final season of Netflix's Stranger Things.
The company took home the award at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles today, recognising the work of more than 450 crew across its Wellington and Vancouver hubs.
Senior visual effects supervisor Martin Hill accepted the award of behalf of the team.
"I'm delighted for all our immensely talented Wētā FX Stranger Things team to be awarded this honour by the Television Academy," he said.
"This epic final season was created by a dedicated team of amazing artists and I’m proud of every single person that contributed to it.
"It was a pleasure to collaborate with our friends at Netflix, the Duffer Brothers, Betsy Paterson, and Michael Maher. Congratulations to all my fellow award winners and thank you."
Wētā FX was responsible for the majority of the visual effects used in the fifth and final season of the hit series, completing more than 1185 shots across eight episodes.
Its work included digitally de-aging character Will Byers, creating a "new heavily-destructed" look for villain Vecna and building the show's Abyss environment.
The team was also behind the Mind Flayer creature featured in the series' dramatic final battle.
Wētā FX head of visual effects Matt Aitken said the company was proud to see the team's work recognised.
"We are all so proud of our Stranger Things crew, so congratulations to everyone on this wonderful achievement," Aitken said.
"It always means the world when our people and their creativity are recognised by our peers in the industry."
The company has previously won Emmy Awards for special effects work on Game of Thrones, The Last of Us and Ripley.
Earlier this year, Wētā FX took out the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for its work on Avatar: Fire and Ash.
