Paid parental leave rate to increase from July

The amount paid to parents of new-borns taking time off from work to care for their children will increase from July 1.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden said the first weeks after a baby was born were "crucial for parents being able to bond with their child".

Shane Jones made 'significant errors' with travel budget blowout – says Nicola Willis

The Finance Minister has criticised Shane Jones for a $30,000 budget blowout incurred while attending a mining conference in Canada, saying he has made "significant errors".

But Jones has immediately fired back, saying Nicola Willis "must be in possession of information I don't have, because to the best of my knowledge there were no errors made by my office".

Labour vows to bring back free prescriptions axed by the Government

Labour would reinstate free prescriptions if elected at November's election, reversing a $5 charge the National-led Government brought back barely three years earlier, leader Chris Hipkins announced today.

The move would resurrect a short-lived universal scheme the previous Labour government introduced at Budget 2023, only for the coalition to scrap it the year after.
