Support pours in for Jeremy Clarkson in wake of cancer diagnosis

Journalist Piers Morgan acknowledged Clarkson's diagnosis online.

UK television presenter Jeremy Clarkson is being praised by followers, fans and prostate cancer advocates in the wake of his cancer diagnosis.

The 66-year-old revealed he was undergoing treatment for "aggressive" cancer in the final two episodes of Amazon Prime show Clarkson's Farm.

In a separate discussion with Kaleb Cooper in episode eight, Clarkson confirmed the type of cancer, telling him: "The prostate, 10% of it is dead, the 10% where the cancer is."

Later, Clarkson told co-star Gerald: "I had the op, and just fingers crossed it's worked, we don't know yet."

The fifth season finale finished with Clarkson speaking from a hospital bed, waving goodbye to viewers as he said he hoped to return for a sixth season.

After the episodes aired, fans and followers flocked to social media to share their support for the former Top Gear star's bravery.

Prostate Cancer UK thanked Clarkson for candidly sharing his diagnosis and treatment, which it said "raised vital awareness with the millions of men and families watching".

"Thankfully he found the disease at an early stage, but sadly this is still not the experience of many men across the UK," it said in a post online.

It urged any men worried by Clarkson's story to take action, and chat with their GP about a blood test to check for any signs.

Broadcaster Piers Morgan also acknowledged Clarkson's diagnosis online, saying it served as a reminder to men they should get tested.

Morgan shared a picture with Clarkson on Instagram, revealing that it was taken a few days before Clarkson sent him a text.

"I was surprised when Jeremy Clarkson texted me on Boxing Day, a few days after this pic was taken, to say how much he liked my @paddypowerofficial ad urging men to get tested for prostate cancer. Now I understand," the caption read.

He added, "I wish my old sparring partner all the best with his treatment. Guys, have a PSA test, it may save your life."

Irish actress Lisa Hogan — who has been dating Clarkson since 2017 — shared a photo to her Instagram story of the presenter sitting on a garden chair while using a camera.

The photo read "back at the farm", and the Dublin-born actress wrote: "Thank you for all the support today."

Earlier in the show, Clarkson said he was close to suffering a heart attack and survived the close-shave thanks to scrolling on his phone.

He explained that the problems came from unhealthy arteries, which were blocked and prevented blood from getting to his heart.

“I was scrolling on my phone. If I hadn’t been doing that I wouldn’t have got pins and needles in my arm and if I hadn’t got pins and needles, I wouldn’t have gone: ‘Hang on, am I having a heart problem?’ and wouldn’t have gone to hospital. They put me in this big polo mint [scanner] and they found out I have got really bad coronary heart problems.”
