Government reveals new fuel rationing plans, initial phases 'too complex'

The Government has pushed back possible fuel rationing measures to its most extreme emergency phase level after businesses said New Zealand's original plan for an energy shortage was "too complex".

Finance Minister Nicola Willis and Associate Energy Minister Shane Jones today released a revised fuel response plan for petrol and diesel, moving the introduction of priority fuel users from phase three to four.

Mariameno Kapa-Kingi splits from Te Pāti Māori, launches new party

Te Tai Tokerau MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi has launched a new political party to contest the election, splitting from Te Pāti Māori after months of bitter conflict.

Her new party, named Te Tai Tokerau Party, will contest the election on "kaupapa grounded in tino rangatiratanga, local decision-making and mana mokopuna", she said.
