Truck on fire on Waikato highway, closing road

State Highway 27 in Matamata, east of Hamilton has closed after a truck carrying heavy machinery caught on fire this morning.

Police said the north and southbound lanes are closed and vehicles are being diverted.

Motorists, especially truck drivers, are asked to expect delays.

Police said people are urged to avoid the area.
