A State of Emergency remains in place for parts of Wellington’s southern and eastern wards as residents in coastal suburbs face large swells and strong winds in the region today and tomorrow.

The dangerous conditions are being driven by a deep low-pressure system south of New Zealand, generating powerful southwesterly winds across the Southern Ocean.

Three pilots have been fined $400 each after attempting to carry undeclared food items into the country through Auckland.

In a post online, the Ministry of Primary Industries reminded people that "nobody is exempt from New Zealand's biosecurity restrictions" after Sophie the detector dog sniffed out three pilots in a month, all carrying undeclared items.

A mother’s wish for a memorial bench to honour her dead son and the Whangaparāoa community who came together to find him 11 days after he went missing has finally been granted.

The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board met on Tuesday to approve a bench for Tyler Porter at Arkles Bay at Whangaparāoa, Auckland.
