Thousands of public service jobs to go, major Government shake-up announced

Nearly 9000 public service roles will be cut over the next three years under a sweeping Government overhaul that promises $2.4bn in savings through mergers, more AI use, and budget caps, Finance Minister Nicola Willis says.

Willis and Public Service Minister Paul Goldsmith revealed earlier today that the core public service could be brought down to about 55,000 staff, a level they described as the historic norm of roughly 1% of the population, with a sinking lid policy.

A woman, who shared a video online of Wealth Mentor chief executive Kyron Gosse slapping her, says she did so to raise awareness of workplace bullying.

Speed camera removed from Taupō highway after causing traffic to 'veer' into opposing lane

A New Zealand Transport Agency mobile speed camera trailer unit has been removed by police from State Highway 1 after forcing traffic to “veer” into the oncoming lane.

"Didymo" Dave Cade told 1News he first noticed the unit after an officer had stopped behind it on the side of the road in Waitahanui, south of Taupō, on Saturday afternoon.
