The Prime Minister visited an Auckland learning centre's teen parent unit today, to thank a group of young women who gave her "practical advice" before she became a mother.

"I really appreciated the fact that what sat behind that was experience...really thoughtful, beautifully written letters," Jacinda Ardern said.

She said she received letters from young women from the Connected Learning Centre before she went on maternity leave, "full of advice and thoughts on parenting and a little insight into their lives as well".

"I was so moved by their letters I just wanted to come and see them and thank them."

"It was really practical advise, from a mum to a mum-to-be."
