The police watchdog has cleared Police Commissioner Richard Chambers over anonymous complaints about his conduct at work, finding many of them appeared to rest on “rumour and hearsay”.
On Tuesday, the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) said it had concluded its investigation into an anonymous letter it received in November 2025, which raised concerns about Chambers’ workplace conduct. Police Minister Mark Mitchell had referred the letter to the authority on the day he received it.
The IPCA said it had also investigated other concerns of a similar nature that came to light during its inquiries.
“The information came to us from different sources, including an anonymous email,” the authority said.
The latest findings follow a separate investigation into a complaint made in February by a woman who had been in a relationship with Chambers in the 1990s. In September, the IPCA found no evidence to support her claims that Chambers had stalked her and digitally surveilled her.

The authority said today investigators focused on identifiable people and on specific times and places, and reviewed official records. People who had been named as having direct knowledge said they either knew nothing first-hand or that the claims were false.
The IPCA acknowledged strong public interest in what the claims involved, but said it also had to be fair to everyone involved.
"As the concerns are unsubstantiated and many appear to have been based on rumour and hearsay, we have decided to limit the detail we place in the public domain," it said.
"We are satisfied that no further inquiries are necessary and we will not be providing any further information."
Chambers told 1News in a statement he acknowledged the findings.
"I note those findings are conclusive and unequivocal. It has not come as a surprise to me that none of the alleged matters were substantiated - because they did not happen," he said.
"This is now concluded and I will not be making any further comment."
