A manhunt is underway after two people were "wounded by a weapon" during a burglary in Auckland's Avondale this morning.
Police said a group was socialising at a house on Ahiriri Avenue at around 3.20am when two unknown men approached.
"A physical altercation ensued, and two people were wounded by a weapon one of the males had in his possession," Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk said.
The duo then unsuccessfully tried to steal from the property, fleeing in a vehicle before police arrived.
"Two victims were transported to hospital in serious conditions, and enquiries are ongoing to locate those responsible," Kirk said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact police by calling 105.
