A multi-agency air and sea search will continue today for a kayaker reported missing from west Auckland over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the coast of Mill Bay around 3pm on Sunday following a report of a man who had been kayaking alone and failed to return to shore.
Waitematā West Area Commander Inspector Simon Walker said the man was last seen on a blue and white kayak about 1km offshore between Mill Bay and Manukau Heads.
An extensive search operation was launched including police Eagle helicopter, Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter, coastguard and other vessels.
"We searched until dark, however the man was not located," he said.
"Search efforts today will focus on aerial and coastline searches in the area."
He thanked agencies that had assisted so far in the search.
Police urged anyone who had seen anything unusual in the water to contact 111.
