A person remains in a critical condition in hospital following an assault outside a commercial premises in South Auckland overnight.
Police said the assault occurred on Massey Rd in Māngere at around 12.10am on Sunday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Tiernan said the victim was transported to hospital, where they remained in a critical condition.
"The alleged offender fled the scene prior to police arrival, and we are making inquiries to locate them," he said.
"A scene guard is in place on Massey Rd while police conduct a scene examination. The public can expect an increased police presence during this time."
Footage captured by 1News showed police cordons surrounding a commercial complex and a Mobil petrol station.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the assault or had information about the incident to contact them through 105, quoting file number 261025/0338.
