Dunedin man was in confrontation shortly before he died, police say

Emergency services found David Noah, 40, unresponsive on Leckhampton Court in the suburb of Clyde Hill at about 11pm on September 30.

Police want to find a man heard arguing with Dunedin man David Noah shortly before the 40-year-old was found dead, saying they believe he was in a confrontation moments before he died.

Emergency services found Noah unresponsive on Leckhampton Court in the suburb of Clyde Hill at about 11pm on September 30. He was pronounced dead a short time later, with police treating his death as unexplained.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hayden Smale said investigators had pieced together Noah’s movements that night, including a growing tension with a person of interest in the hours before his death.

“We know with some certainty that David Noah left his home address and arrived at Leckhampton Court a short time later,” Smale said.

“A witness has told police that around this time they heard two men arguing. We believe one of those men was David Noah, and we are very keen to identify and speak with the other man.”

A post-mortem examination did not establish how Noah died, but Smale said it found injuries consistent with an assault.

“Taken together with the information we have gathered during the investigation, we strongly believe David was involved in a confrontation shortly before he died.”

Smale said police had continued to talk to people who knew Noah but believed some were holding back or lying.

“We believe there are people withholding information or deliberately being untruthful about what occurred that night,” he said.

“Do the right thing and speak with us. David’s family has had to endure something no family should ever face. They deserve honest answers about what happened to their loved one.”

Anyone with relevant information should contact police.
