Thousands of people are packing out the Auckland Showgrounds this Labour weekend to attend the Armageddon Expo.

Organisers expected to welcome around 50,000 attendees, calling it one of the biggest expos yet, with more exhibitors, guests and events than ever before.

Armageddon Expo offers fans a range of gaming experiences, collectables, merchandise and memorabilia, along with the chance to meet the stars behind their favourite shows, films and games. Key events include cosplay parades, K-pop showcases, amusement rides and trading card tournaments.

The celebrity line-up includes a reunion of the Supernatural cast, as well as stars from High School Musical, Star Treck, Criminal Minds, Lord of The Rings, and many more.

Many attendees arrive in cosplay, dressed as characters from films, books, comics and video games. As well as dressing the part, cosplayers also often play the character. Some spend hours preparing their outfits, makeup and props.
