Liam Lawson to once again drive for Red Bull at Spanish GP

Kiwi F1 driver Liam Lawson will get a third race weekend behind the wheel of a Red Bull as the series moves on to Spain.

Lawson was temporarily promoted to the team after the summer break as injury cover for French-Algerian Isack Hadjar.

In a statement this morning, Red Bull said: “After racing for the team in Zandvoort and Monza, Liam will continue to drive alongside Max at this week’s Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.

“The decision has been taken as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively. While he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be in Madrid supporting the team.

“Everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing looks forward to welcoming Isack back behind the wheel very soon.”

Yuki Tsunoda will continue to drive Lawson's normal ride at Racing Bulls.

It comes after a difficult weekend for Lawson at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, starting from the pit lane in the race and finishing 14th. The previous weekend's Dutch Grand Prix was far more positive, with a 7th-place finish.

This weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, being held at a brand-new track in Madrid, will have its first practice session on Friday.
