Police are appealing to the public for information as investigations continue after two people were shot dead at a south Auckland property last week.

The bodies of a man and woman were found at an address on Gambare Pl in Wattle Downs at around 1.45pm on Thursday, with nearby schools locked down and armed police sweeping through the street.

The offender fled the scene before officers arrived, police said last week.

In an update today, Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua said postmortems and the scene examination had been completed, with investigators "continuing to assess every line of inquiry available to us".

Police launch homicide investigation after a serious incident in Manurewa on August 27, 2026 in Auckland.

“We would like to thank the members of the community who have assisted with this investigation so far, and encourage anyone who is yet to speak with us to please come forward," he said.

“If you have any footage, whether it’s CCTV or dashcam, or you saw anything – we need to hear from you."

Va’aelua said investigators were continuing their inquiries with a 30-year-old man who was in custody for an unrelated offence.
