A 25-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop after allegedly fleeing police in Auckland's Clover Park overnight.
Counties Manukau Central Area Prevention Manager Inspector Mark Chivers said the driver of a Toyota Hilux was signalled to stop on Kerrs Rd in Manurewa just before 10.30pm.
He said the driver initially pulled over, but sped off before the officer could speak to them.
"The vehicle was observed driving through a red light and then travelling at excessive speed along Great South Rd," he said.
Due to the dangerous manner of driving, the vehicle was not pursued and police deployed the Eagle helicopter to track the driver from the sky.
The Hilux was spotted on Hilltop Rd, and a police dog unit was deployed to track a scent from the vehicle to an address on the street.
"The suspected driver was found hiding inside a bedroom and was arrested," Chivers said.
A 25-year-old male would appear in Manukau District Court today, charged with dangerous driving and failing to remain stopped for an enforcement officer.
"Police have no tolerance for drivers who put themselves and other road users at risk with their dangerous decisions," Chivers said.
