A person has died outside an Auckland building that houses offices for National Party MPs.
Police said officers were called to Great South Rd in Epsom at 7.50am today after “reports a person had been located unresponsive”.
“Upon police arrival, the person was pronounced deceased.
“The death is not believed to be suspicious.”
The building includes offices for National List MPs Paul Goldsmith, Melissa Lee and Nancy Lu.
National MP Paul Goldsmith said: "This will naturally be an extremely upsetting situation for anyone involved, and it would be inappropriate to politicise it, or to comment further.
"Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased."
'I thought he was a homeless person'
Local business owner Jay Dai told 1News he arrived at work about 7.28am and saw a man he believed was sleeping outside the entrance to Paul Goldsmith’s office.
"I thought he was a homeless person sleeping on the ground."
He thought it was unusual for the man to have no blanket, but did not approach him.
About 15 minutes later, another business owner texted to say the man was dead. Dai went outside and saw the white cloth covering him.
“It was then I realised, ‘Holy sh*t, he wasn’t sleeping'."
