Sold-out Electric Avenue to release more tickets - but there's a catch

A stacked lineup was announced for the event at Hagley Park on February 26 and 27, 2027 headlined by internationally acclaimed DJ Calvin Harris and rockers Kings of Leon.

Electric Avenue is to release an additional 4000 tickets for its sold-out two-day festival in Christchurch - but there is a catch.

A stacked lineup was announced for the event at Hagley Park on February 26 and 27, 2027 headlined by internationally acclaimed DJ Calvin Harris and rockers Kings of Leon.

Tickets were snapped up almost immediately, and 58,674 individual fans logged in to compete for just 15,000 final-release tickets on September 24.

In a post online today, festival organisers said an additional 4000 tickets would be made available for the festival - but only for greater Christchurch residents.

"Thanks to Christchurch City Council and Hagley Golf Club, our site will be bigger than ever, with 50,000 people each day and 100,000 across the weekend," it said on social media.

Full details on when and how to secure tickets, including eligibility requirements, would be announced soon.

Organisers finished the post by stressing that "tickets are not on sale yet".

When tickets sold out rapidly in September, festival director Callam Mitchell described the response as "extraordinary".

"Selling 32,000 weekend passes before announcing a single artist was an incredible vote of confidence," he said at the time.

"Electric Avenue has become a destination festival in its own right, with people travelling from all over the country, and increasingly from overseas, to be part of the experience."

Tickets were soon being put up for sale online as much as quadruple their original value.

The bill revealed in September also included Bebe Rexha, Gorgon City, Malugi and Wilkinson fresh from Tomorrowland performances and Major Lazer who just played Coachella.

Locals on the line-up include Fat Freddy's Drop, Ladyhawke, Home Brew, SACHI and the return of Kiwi legends Th’ Dudes – 50 years on from their formation – who played Electric Avenue two years ago.

Legendary Kiwi band Split Enz reunited to headline the 2026 edition of the festival, alongside Australian DJ Dom Dolla.
