A US man accused of driving drunk was attacked by an alligator when he fled into a swamp in an effort to evade officers last week.
Louisiana State Police said officers were called to reports of a Toyota Supra being driven recklessly on a highway near New Orleans, striking a concrete barrier and blowing out a tyre.
When troopers pulled over the driver, identified as 40-year-old Victor Rivas, they observed signs of impairment. Before an investigation could be completed, he allegedly fled on foot and jumped from an elevated roadway into a swamp below.
Search efforts eventually led to officers spotting Rivas walking along a nearby highway, but he allegedly ran away again and jumped into another swamp.

It was there that state police say Rivas was attacked by an alligator, suffering injuries to both arms.
Body camera footage was released by the sheriff's office showing Rivas wrestling with the reptile.
Despite his injuries, police said Rivas continued trying to evade arrest. He was eventually captured with the help of drone technology and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Rivas was charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
