Ballentynes Fashion Central is closing down, with 10 of its 23 locations nationwide to reopen as Caroline Eve.

The long-running family clothing business is shutting down after more than 50 years in business.

In an online statement, the company said 10 of its 23 stores around the country will stay open and become part of the Caroline Eve chain.

They will be located in Blenheim, Richmond, Whanganui, Feilding, Palmerston North, Paraparaumu, Hawera, Levin, Lower Hutt and Masterton.

The remaining 13 stores will be closing over the next few months from August 15.

"On behalf of the Ballentyne family - including our incredible team of staff in the stores and in our warehouse, we would like to thank you for your support and shopping with us over the years," the company said on its website.
