Halloween train assault: Police receive new leads after public appeal

Police believe the young women pictured may have information that could assist their investigation.

Police say they have received new information after a public appeal asking for help identifying several young women in relation to a serious assault at an Auckland train station on Halloween last year.

Four victims were attacked at Morningside Station on the platform and on a train carriage on the evening of October 31, 2025.

The three women and a man, all in their early 20s, told the NZ Herald in January they were left "deeply fearful of public transport" after the attack.

One victim estimated around 35 teenagers took part, surrounded them and "took turns".

They suffered head injuries, deep cuts and significant bruising.

Police released photos of the young women, dressed up in costume and appearing to be drinking alcohol, in an appeal on Sunday.

"Two young people have been arrested, however police are still working to identify some of the people present at the time."

On Monday, Detective Sergeant Craig Burrow said investigators had received information following the appeal.

"Police have had a positive response to our public appeal that was put out over the weekend," he said.

"We have received some information and we are working through this at present."

Anyone else with relevant information should contact police on 105.
