Police seek young women in relation to 'serious' Halloween assault

Police believe the young women pictured may have information that could assist their investigation.

Police investigating the Halloween assault of four people at Auckland's Morningside Train Station have released images of several young women they believe could help them.

The victims were assaulted on the platform as a well as a train carriage on the evening of October 31 last year, police said.

The three women and a man in, all in their early 20s, told the NZ Herald in January they were left "deeply fearful of public transport" after the attack.

One victim estimated around 35 teenagers took part surrounded them and "took turns".

They suffered head injuries, deep cuts and significant bruising.

In a statement on Sunday, police released the photos of the young women, dressed up in costume and appearing to be drinking alcohol, saying an extensive investigation had been carried out.

"Two young people have been arrested, however police are still working to identify some of the people present at the time."

Police believe the young women pictured may have information that could assist their investigation.

Police advised against approaching them or attempting to identify them directly.
