Part of Waikato Expressway closed after crash involving pedestrian

Part of the Waikato Expressway is closed to southbound traffic after a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian this morning.

Emergency services were called to the incident, north of Huntly, at around 7am.

The expressway, a key part of State Highway 1, was closed to southbound traffic between the Te Kauwhata and the Rangiriri on-ramps.

"The Expressway is expected to remain closed for some time while emergency services work at the scene," police said.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays."

St John said it sent an ambulance and first response vehicle, but said any further information would come from police.
