Body found near Scottish Island where Kiwi monk went missing

Scottish police described Justin Evans as being around 6-foot tall, with short hair and a dark beard.

A body has been recovered from the water off a Scottish Island where a New Zealand-born monk went missing last month.

According to the BBC, Police Scotland said the body was spotted just after 7.30pm (local time) off the Orkney island of Stronsay, and that inquiries were underway.

Justin Evans, 24, born in New Zealand, was living as a Catholic monk with an order on Papa Stronsay. He was known as Brother Ignatius.

He went missing from the Island on April 11, resulting in a huge search operation. He was last seen just before midnight that day, near a monastery.

In a statement to BBC Radio Orkney, police said that no formal identification had taken place yet, "however, the family of Justin Evans has been informed".

"The death is being treated as unexplained.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
