Extensive search underway for Kiwi monk missing from Scottish monastery

Scottish police described Evans as being around 6-foot tall, with short hair and a dark beard.

An extensive search is underway to find a monk from New Zealand who is missing from a monastery in Scotland.

Justin Evans, 24, was last seen within Golgotha Monastery on the Papa Stronsay island in Orkney shortly before midnight on April 11.

Papa Stronsay is known as a "holy island" after it was bought by a Catholic order in 1999 and operated as essentially a private, monastic community with no public gas, electricity, or water lines.

Scottish police described Evans as being around 6-foot tall, with short hair and a dark beard.

"He speaks with a New Zealand accent. When last seen he was wearing a white robe," said Inspector David Hall.

"Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace Justin and as time passes concerns are growing."

Hall said authorities were working with partner agencies to carry out "extensive searches" in the island area.

"I am now appealing for anyone may have visited the island and have any information on Justin or his whereabouts to contact us."
