Dame Jools Topp celebration: How to watch or attend today’s event

A memorial to celebrate the life of Dame Jools Topp will be held this afternoon – bringing together whānau, fellow artists, friends and fans from across the country.

Dame Jools died on May 25, aged 68, after living with breast cancer for 22 years.

As one half of well-known comedic singing duo The Topp Twins – the occasion will bring approximately 1650 people to the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland.

Tickets to the event are free, though still need to be processed through ticketing website Moshtix. Tickets in the standing area were still available as of Thursday afternoon.

For those who cannot attend in person, a livestream for the event will be available on 1News.co.nz from 2pm.

Comedic country music duo The Topp Twins entertained Kiwi fans for over 40 years.

The event will run for about an hour and a half and will feature speeches and songs from guests including Dame Lynda Topp, Helen Clark, Tami Neilson and Neil Finn.

The send off will be hosted by Miriama Kamo and will feature VIP guests including Hollie Smith, Anika Moa, Mereana Pitman, Labour leader Chris Hipkins, deputy opposition leader Carmel Sepuloni and Green Party co-leaders Chloe Swarbrick and Marama Davidson.

Other performers, including Annie Crummer, Bella Kalolo, Oscar Knightly, Chris Parker, Michele A’Court and Edward Cowley, will attend.
