Porirua house fire spreads to neighbouring property amid high winds

A house fire has spread to a neighbouring property and caravan amid high winds in Porirua this evening.

Fire and Emergency Services NZ said crews were called to a house fire in Tītahi Bay around 5.50pm.

"Due to the high winds the fire has spread to the exterior of the next-door neighbouring property. A caravan on the neighbouring property has also caught fire."

Eight crews are at the scene and are "in the process of extinguishing the fire".

There were no reports of anyone inside or of any injuries.

Police have confirmed a friend of an 11-year-old girl assaulted in Porirua last week intervened in the incident before the offender fled the scene.
