Prime Minister Christopher Luxon spoke to media early this afternoon, amid more speculation about his leadership.

The New Zealand Herald this morning published a story about disquiet in the party and moves to replace him could happen within the next fortnight.

Breakfast’s Tova O’Brien has been in contact with a National MP who told her the numbers are probably there to unseat him – but they'd prefer he stood down rather than be rolled.

Senior National MPs have told media this morning there is no coup.

The Herald also reported Stuart Smith, MP and National party whip, could not contact Luxon during the last sitting of Parliament two weeks ago to communicate the views of National MPs.

However, a spokesperson the Prime Minister said: “The PM has a busy diary, but is always available to MPs. He spent the day with Stuart on Tuesday.”
