One person has died following a water related incident at Manu Bay last night.

Police said emergency services were called at 6.24pm to a group of people requiring assistance in the water off the coast of Raglan.

Four people made it out of the water, with one person initially unaccounted for.

Coastguard assisted police and the person was located a short time later on the rocks and urgent medical treatment was provided.

However, the person died at the scene a short time later. The death will be referred to the coroner.

Coastguard Raglan said in a statement they used a boat and two jet skis to help locate the person.

"It's with heavy hearts that despite our best efforts, the individual was unable to be revived. Our thoughts are with the whānau and friends of the individual during this difficult time."

Manu Bay is a renown surf beach, its point break hosting the Raglan Rip Curl Pro competition.
