Person at Hamilton bus stop shot with air gun, police hunt orange car

Police were called to Masters Avenue, near Hillcrest Park, just before 3pm on Saturday after receiving reports that someone had fired an air gun at a member of the public.

A person waiting at a Hamilton bus stop has been injured after being shot with an air gun, and police are hunting four or five people seen in a small orange car.

Police were called to Masters Avenue, near Hillcrest Park, just before 3pm on Saturday after receiving reports that someone had fired an air gun at a member of the public.

St John sent an ambulance and a rapid response unit.

"Our ambulance crew treated and transported one patient in a moderate condition to Waikato Hospital."

Police said they believed four to five people had been inside the car, and that one of the occupants had long hair.

A police spokesperson said officers were working to find those responsible.

"The community can be reassured police are making active enquiries to locate the offenders."

Police have asked anyone who saw the incident, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from the area between 2.30pm and 3pm, to check it.

"If anything matches the description above, please contact police immediately on 111," the spokesperson said.
