Teen charged after Hamilton bus stop air gun shooting

Police were called to Masters Avenue, near Hillcrest Park, just before 3pm on Saturday after receiving reports that someone had fired an air gun at a member of the public.

Police have charged a teenager alleged to be involved in an air gun incident in Hamilton yesterday afternoon.

A person was injured at a bus stop on Masters Avenue near Hillcrest Park and given medical treatment after being shot at.

Senior Sergeant Mark Pettigrew said police went to a Hamilton property early on Sunday, where firearms, ammunition and other weapons were found.

"Following extensive enquiries, at approximately 1am today, the Armed Offenders Squad and CIB assisted front line staff at a Hamilton property where firearms, ammunition and other weapons were discovered," he said.

An 18-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges of wounding with reckless disregard, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday.

Pettigrew acknowledged the public for their help.

"Police want to thank members of the public who helped with enquiries, and police continue to work with community members who may have witnessed the incident."
