The theme song for the Auckland Commonwealth Games was the earworm of 1990 — and now, Aotearoa can join in with the next sports anthem.
Olympic cyclist Ellesse Andrews and Olympic kayaker Max Brown have composed a team song for this year's Olympics.
Joining Breakfast this morning, the pair said they tried to conjure up a song that conveyed the experience of competing.
"We tried to come up with a song that shows the expressions and emotions of race day, the nerves, anxiety.
"It's written in a sporting context but applies to anyone performing, TV presenters, or whatever," Brown said.
Andrews said she and Brown started catching up to play music now and then about six years ago, but haven't been consistent because one of them is always away training or competing.
"We enjoy jamming. For me, it's vocals and guitar, but we've never done anything too serious until now."
