A 24-hour time lapse video has captured the solstice at Scott Base, New Zealand's Antarctic research station.

As the sun doesn’t set through summer in Antarctica, it’s the first place to see the solstice - the longest day of the year.

The solstice sun peaked at 4.58am Wednesday morning (NZT), an Antarctica spokesperson said.

The sun then starts getting lower in the sky from now onwards.
