Warmer temperatures and plenty of sunshine are on the way for much of New Zealand this week, with settled conditions expected to continue into the start of Labour Weekend.
MetService said a slow-moving high-pressure system over the Tasman Sea would bring largely fine weather across the country, with temperatures set to gradually climb over the coming days.
Eastern parts of both islands were expected to enjoy some of the warmest conditions, with highs of 26C forecast for Alexandra , 25C for Ashburton and 24C for Masterton.
MetService meteorlogist Sophie Huntington said many would welcome the sunshine but the continued dry weather might not be good news for everyone.
"Parts of the country remain on the dry side, with some areas like Northland likely hoping for a little more moisture," she said.

A front moving across the South Island today was expected to bring scattered rain to southern and western areas before clearing for most on Tuesday. However, showers were expected to linger in Fiordland and parts of the West Coast.
The North Island was forecast to remain mostly dry, although patchy light rain was possible along the east coast on Tuesday.
While western areas could expect some cloud, eastern parts of both islands were set to enjoy mainly fine conditions.
MetService said the settled weather could also bring patches of morning fog and low cloud, as well as possible west to southwest winds across the country.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Wednesday and Thursday were expected to bring mainly fine spring conditions across both islands.
Friday was also shaping up to be a pleasant start to Labour Weekend, with only isolated showers forecast around the North Island's ranges and parts of the lower South Island.
Hawke's Bay was expected to enjoy fine weather for its anniversary day on Friday.
The settled outlook followed a turbulent weekend of spring weather, which brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds to parts of the country.
