Taranaki and Chiefs prop Angus Ta'avao has been called into the All Blacks squad as injury cover, with Joe Moody to miss the remainder of the Rugby Championship after injuring his thumb.
Moody fractured his left thumb during last Saturday's Bledisloe Cup Test against the Wallabies at Eden Park and has been ruled out of rugby action for six weeks.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen said the 29-year-old will be available for the Northern tour to Japan and Europe at the end of the year.
"Moods has had an x-ray which has revealed a fracture in his left thumb," said Hansen.
All Blacks replacement prop Jeff To'omaga-Allen is carrying an injury, which gives way to Ta'avao to be called up into the New Zealand squad.
With Moody injured fellow All Blacks prop Karl Tu'inukuafe will have to cover the loose-head position as well.
"Angus had a big season for the Chiefs during the Super Rugby season, was part of a very good Chiefs pack and has made big strides on the technical aspects of his position," said Hansen.
"We look forward to him joining the squad."
The All Blacks take on Argentina next Saturday at Nelson's Trafalgar Park.
