Kiwis welcome in the New Year are set for pleasant weather across the country.

Metservice forecast for New Year's Eve:

Whangarei - Long fine spells. Light winds and sea breezes.

Auckland - Long fine spells. Light winds and sea breezes.

Tauranga - Fine with increasing high cloud. Light winds.

New Plymouth - Cloudy periods increasing. Northwesterlies.

Gisborne - Fine. Light winds and sea breezes.

Wellington - Becoming cloudy. Northerlies, strong at times.

Nelson - Cloud increasing. Northwesterlies.

Christchurch - A fine day. Northeasterlies developing.

Queenstown - Mainly fine, but chance afternoon shower. Light winds, evening southerly.

Dunedin - Mainly fine, some evening cloud. Northeasterlies.

Invercargill - Fine with light winds.
