All Blacks coach Steve Hansen believes young hooker Asafo Aumua is a star of the future, but admits he still has a lot to learn.

Hansen said the Wellington hooker has fit in well in the squad and that Aumua is probably still pinching himself over his selection in the All Blacks team.

"I'd say if we are all being honest he's probably overwhelmed by it all and excited," said Hansen.

"He's a pretty clever footballer so there is a lot though that we have got to help him with and we will do that nice and slowly."

Hansen said they aren't putting too much pressure on the 20-year-old.

"Don't expect too much from him, but you know he's pretty handy."

The All Blacks coach also said Dane Coles, Codie Taylor and Nathan Harris are also talented hookers and have had a good season in 2017.

"The three ahead of him are going alright too."

Aumua has been named on the bench for the All Blacks against the Barbarians on Sunday (4am NZ time).
