Watch: More violence erupts between Tongan and Samoan league fans in South Auckland despite pleas from players to stop

November 2, 2017

Despite the pleas of players and police, fresh violence has erupted overnight between fans of the Tongan and Samoan rugby league teams ahead of their World Cup match in Hamilton this weekend.

Opposing South Auckland fans faced off in the street last night - one video which has surfaced on social media today saw people holding Samoan flags approach a vehicle and begin throwing punches while others nearby pleaded for them to stop.

Glass can also be heard breaking in the background.

Mate Ma'a Tonga captain Sika Manu asked both supporters of his team and Toa Samoa to keep the peace after videos emerged yesterday of an all-in brawl.

"Hey what's up guys this is the Mate Ma'a Tonga team - just a message to our toko's (brothers) and uso's (brothers) out there, please keep the peace," Manu said in a video posted to social media.

"We're all from the islands – let's keep the peace."

The rest of the Tongan team shouted "toko - uso" at the end of the video.

Samoa play Tonga at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton at 7:30pm NZT on Saturday.
