Protesters supporting a united Spain demonstrated outside the Catalan Government building in Saint Jaume Plaza, Barcelona, today.

Thousands of people were also protesting elsewhere in the city supporting unity.
The civil society organisation Sociedad Civil called the protest, two days after the Catalan Parliament voted in favour of declaring Catalonia an independent republic.
The Spanish central government has taken over the effective running of this prosperous region but Catalonia’s President Carles Puigdemont said he intends to continue to run the area.
