Watch: Beast mode! Red Sox manager loses plot and is ejected for tirade as Boston crash out of MLB playoffs

October 10, 2017

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was ejected by home plate umpire Mark Wegner in the bottom of the second inning after coming out to argue a called third strike on Dustin Pedroia, has the home side crashed out of Major League Baseball's playoffs today.

The Red Sox entered today's American League Championship Series Game 4 in a do-or-die situation as the trailed the five-game series 2-1 to the Houston Astros.

They fell behind early to a 2-1 deficit but had a prime chance to seize control of the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the second innings.

And then, self-destruction.

Centre fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was called out on strikes by Wegner on a close call that had Fenway Park fans booing and Farrell looking on.

But when Wegner did the same to All Star second baseman Pedroia five pitches later, Farrell couldn't keep his cool.

The Red Sox manager went out to join his visibly upset leadoff hitter and progressively got angrier with an uninterested Wegner until the umpire had enough and ejected him.

It is the 19th ejection of Farrell's career and his third this season.

The Red Sox eventually lost the game 3-2, ending their season.
