Watch: Taranaki team given hero's welcome as they bring Ranfurly Shield home to New Plymouth

Taranaki's Ranfurly Sheild winning side have returned to New Plymouth after defeating Canterbury 55-43 in Christchurch last night to reclaim the log of wood for the first time since 2012.

Captain Charlie Ngatai was greeted by hundreds of fans as he walked through arrivals at New Plymouth Airport, before lifting the shield high into the air as the gathered crowd cheered in delight.

Coach Colin Cooper and the team followed, shaking hands and taking photos with fans who journeyed to the airport this morning to welcome their team.

Taranaki reclaimed the shield in dramatic fashion, fighting back from 31-7 down to seal their unbelievable win over the previous holders.
