Ravindra ruled out of Black Caps' ODI series vs India

Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand before the start of play. England v New Zealand Blackcaps, Day 4of the 3rd Test cricket match at Trentbridge, Nottingham, England on Sunday 28 June 2026.

The Black Caps will remain without the services of Rachin Ravindra for their upcoming ODI series against India.

The star batter will continue his recovery from the shoulder injury which ruled him out of the Twenty20 series, won 3-2 by the visitors.

Ravindra suffered what NZ Cricket described as a “freak” injury during a promotional shoot with Sky TV in September, dislocating his shoulder as he attempted to dive for a catch.

Also absent due to injury is Mark Chapman, with the batter unavailable due to a lingering hamstring problem.

As a result, Tim Seifert now joins the split squad for the full five-match ODI series, while Dean Foxcroft comes in for the final two games and Henry Nicholls for the opening three.

With the Test series approaching, head coach Rob Walter stressed the need for patience with Ravindra’s rehabilitation.

“Things are looking pretty good,” Walter said. “He’s just a little bit behind where we hoped he would be.

“He’s at the end stage of his rehab, but the risk with the shoulder is around diving. In ODI cricket, the intensity and diving around are expected, so we didn’t really want to expose him to that too early. But he’s still on track.

“If it was just a matter of batting, which he’d love to do without having to do anything else, then he would’ve been fine. The extra two weeks, in my opinion, unless something goes wrong along the way, will be all good for him to be ready.”

The first of the five-match series takes place at Auckland’s Eden Park on Wednesday.
