A woman has died after being struck by a train in Henderson this afternoon.
Police were called to the rail crossing near the Sturges Rd Train Station on Mt Lebanon Ln around 2.55pm.
"Sadly, I can confirm a woman was pronounced deceased at the scene," Acting Inspector Warwick Stainton said. "This is understandably a terrible incident for everyone involved and we are working to notify the next of kin."
A cordon was expected to remain in place until this evening.
"Anyone who may have witnessed what happened, and who hasn’t yet spoken to police, is asked to please make contact," Stainton said.
Hato Hone St John said it was also alerted to the incident at 2.55pm and responded with one ambulance.
Last month, a Mount Albert Grammar school student also died after he was struck by a train on the East West Line at Mt Albert.
Afternoon travel disruptions
Auckland Transport warned of delays and cancellations due to the incident.
"There are delays and cancellations on the East West Line because of an emergency services incident near Henderson station," an alert read. "Trains will run between Manukau and Henderson only, and will not stop at Sturges Road, Ranui or Swanson stations."
Auckland Transport advised rail replacement buses would depart from Henderson and Swanson, approximately every 30 minutes.
Final services would depart at approximately 6.55pm for Henderson to Swanson and 6.40pm for Swanson to Henderson.
Buses would stop at Sturges Road, Ranui and Swanson stations but people were advised to use other scheduled bus routes if possible.
"Check Live Departures or digital screens at stations before you board. Buses will accept train tickets," Auckland Transport said.
