Olivia Dean was forced to stop her sold-out concert at Western Springs Bowl last night due to sound issues.

Dean was playing to more than 40,000 people at the revamped venue as part of her Art of Loving Live tour.

RNZ executive editor Jeremy Rees, who was at the concert, said Dean played three songs to a jubilant crowd, before leaving the stage, saying the sound needed to be "reset".

"We're looking at an empty stage at the moment and it's a real disappointment for people who had been looking forward to the Olivia Dean concert for a long, long time,” Rees said.

At 9.30pm, a stage manager announced the sound at the stadium was being reset.

Olivia Dean performs at Laneway Festival 2025 on February 06, 2025 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Rees said the first few songs sounded very good, although Dean's voice cut out in places.

"The crowd were right into it and singing along and happy, and then just as I say, she said she had to stop. She improvised for a moment, talking about love and her latest album, while people were trying to fix the sound."

The concert restarted just after 10pm, with Dean apologising to the crowd and saying the show would not be cut short, before launching into a song.

"Yeah, we are back," she added, after half an hour off stage.

The concert faced an 11pm curfew.
