Transport delays expected across Auckland due to concerts, sport

Auckland Transport is warning passengers to expect some delays, as tens of thousands of people head to what has been dubbed a "super Saturday of sport and sounds".

Auckland FC's A-League season opener will be at Go Media Stadium, alongside sold-out concerts from Olivia Dean at Western Springs Bowl, Stan Walker at The Trusts Arena, and Macy Gray at The Civic.

The warning has come after some passengers waited up to 40 minutes for a train after last weekend's Bledisloe Cup match at Eden Park, due to a delay in closing a level crossing.

Rebecca Paul from Auckland Transport Operations Centre urged people to be patient and keep in good spirits this weekend.

"I think it's reasonable to expect that with moving large crowds for such busy events, that there will be some wait time involved."

She said Auckland Transport would be monitoring the network and would update passengers if any delays occurred.

Paul said extra capacity would be added on some buses and trains, as those heading to the Auckland FC game against Melbourne City FC will also be able to travel for free from 1.30pm. Additional staff will also be stationed at Penrose Station, about a 12-minute walk from Go Media Stadium.

For the sold-out Olivia Dean concert, regular bus and train services will continue, while private event shuttles will run between downtown Auckland and Western Springs Bowl. Additional buses will also be on standby on the NX1 and 18 routes after the concert.

People heading to Stan Walker's sold-out show at The Trusts Arena can use regular bus services from Henderson Station, while those driving are being encouraged to use the Lincoln Road or Te Atatū Road motorway off-ramps.

Macy Gray is also performing at The Civic, with the show expected to finish about 10.30pm.

Paul urged people to plan ahead, allow extra time, and check the Auckland Transport website or mobile app for the latest information.

"We are monitoring the network from the operations centre. We're doing everything to ensure that you're kept up to date. If there are any delays, that information goes out immediately, and we're able to remedy things as they happen on the network.

"So rest assured that there is an overview that happens on these very busy nights that includes all of the roads and the public transport network."
