Five 15-year-olds were taken into custody after an alleged car theft and spiking in West Auckland early on Monday.
Police were called to reports of two people allegedly stealing a vehicle on Te Atatū Rd in West Auckland at around 3am.
Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop said police units were looking for the vehicle and "spotted a car with a broken quarter light on Edmonton Rd".
Police attempted to make a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.
"Eagle took over and followed the vehicle as it travelled around west Auckland and onto the motorway," Winthrop said.
As the vehicle exited State Highway 20 at Walmsley Rd, it was spiked by police and stopped on James Fletcher Drive shortly after.
“All five of the occupants exited the vehicle and were taken into custody without issue,” Winthrop said.
All five occupants were aged 15 and were being referred to Youth Aid Services, police said.
