Police continue to investigate the deaths of two children and a woman in Rotorua earlier this week, but say the process could take some time.
Emergency services found the children - one aged three years and the other 11 months - dead at a property in Glenholme around 10.30pm on Monday. The woman was found with critical injuries and could not be saved.
A homicide probe was launched.
On Tuesday afternoon a man appeared in Rotorua District Court on a charge of assault on a person in a family relationship.
The man has remained in custody, and police said they were not looking for anyone else relating to the deaths.
Acting Bay of Plenty District Commander, Inspector Logan Marsh said in a statement today that their investigations continue.
"The team are carefully working through a large volume of information, and this will take some time," he said.
"Our thoughts are with the family who we continue to support."
He said events had left the community shaken and there are many unanswered questions.
No further charges had been laid at this stage.
